Who this is
An independent host. Not the app.
The Weekly Split is a recurring public challenge on Steppa. I create the card, pay the listing cost, publish standings and settlements, and take the creator fee Steppa charges on top of each entry. I do not work for Steppa LLC. I do not hold your money. I do not decide who won.
Why 5%
On a $70 entry the host fee is $3.50. Steppa charges $25 to list a public challenge, so an edition has to draw a prize pool of about $500 (about eight people at $70) before I make anything at all. Most community challenges on the platform never get there, which is why most of them run once and stop.
That fee pays for the weekly listing, the Saturday choreography, the Wednesday and Friday standings, the Monday receipt, and the work when someone’s sync dies on day five. It is charged on top of your stake. Challenges created on or after 18 June 2026 use Steppa’s up-front model: the prize pool is paid out in full to finishers (terms). The 5% is the rate I set in the create flow. Always read the fee screen in the app. The processing fee stays “shown in app.”
I earn the fee whether or not you finish, and whether or not the week goes well. That sentence is uncomfortable and it belongs next to the join button, not in a footer. The full disclosure.
What I control, and what I don’t
- I set the challenge name, the step goal, the dates, the $70 entry, and the public listing.
- I publish receipts, standings, and this site. I run the community rules.
- I do not hold stakes, process payments, verify steps, issue payouts, or overturn a Steppa ruling.
- Steppa holds the money, reads Apple Health, settles the pool, and decides disputes.
If this site and the app disagree, the app wins. A stale number here is a bug, not a feature.
Why join this instead of a house challenge
A house card can show a large pool. On 16 August 2026 the live house listing on playsteppa.com was Ballers: $250 stake, 15 days, 12,000 steps/day, $39,500 pool, 158 joined. Ours is $70 for 7 days at 9,000. Pool size is still a vanity metric. Under the up-front model:
Your payout = your stake ÷ completion rate.
Entrants cancel out. The only variable that determines your return is what fraction of people finish. Steppa does not publish a house completion archive. We transcribed 16 settled house cards that same day (median finish about 77%, return if you finished from 1.07× to 1.69×) on /house-challenge-results. We publish ours every Monday on /receipts.
Two honest caveats: small pools have more variance around the expected outcome, and the creator fee makes expected value slightly lower than an identical house challenge: $3.50 on a $70 entry. Everything else on this site is how we try to return more than $3.50 of value: a known finish-rate band, a guaranteed Monday cadence, standings mid-week, a sync-rescue path, and a season from edition 3.
If nobody finishes a challenge, Steppa keeps the entire pool. That is the strongest argument against brutal difficulty, and we say it out loud. We aim for 60–70% predicted completion so most people succeed and finishing is still worth something.
Goodwill policy
When a participant loses a stake to a verified technical failure, and Steppa declines to refund after we’ve helped them ask properly, we refund our host fee for that entry and give them a free entry to the next edition. Limit one per person per season. Total goodwill spend is capped at 20% of our host fee for that edition.
We don’t cover missed days, illness, travel, forgetting, or changing your mind. Those are the challenge, not a fault.
The cap exists so a bad week of sync issues cannot wipe the month, and so a “no” at the edge is a published rule rather than a mood. Same text lives on /rules.
What this site will never say
We will not call this passive income, a side hustle, easy money, or a way to get paid to walk. The category’s top public earners make small dollars. You can lose $70 in a week. If that sentence bothers you, do not enter.
